Dr. John Mitko grew up in Princeton, New Jersey and attended Franklin & Marshall College where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in public health. He graduated with high honors from Ross University School of Medicine and went on to TriHealth Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio for a general surgery residency.

Dr. Mitko completed a fellowship in advanced laparoscopy, minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Summa Health in Akron, Ohio. While there, he further developed his skill set in both the medical and surgical management of obesity. Dr. Mitko’s clinical interests include treating gallstones, hernias, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and obesity. 

Dr. Mitko is active at the local and national levels of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) with a focus on increasing access to care. He has published several research articles on caring for the obese population. Dr. Mitko is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine

In his spare time, Dr. Mitko enjoys watching football and basketball, camping and skiing.
